Preston W. Smith, JD, FACHE, is President, Tyler & Company. Preston brings more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience to the firm. He is board certified in healthcare management and is a 2017 board member of the Georgia Association of Healthcare Executives.
Previously, Preston was Chief Revenue Officer at ApolloMD, a national multi-specialty professional medical service company, where he served to drive better integration and alignment between all revenue-related functions as well as oversee the company’s compliance and its professional liability insurance program.
Prior to joining ApolloMD, Preston worked as a private practice attorney working on an array of healthcare-related areas including hospital law, medical malpractice defense, physician practice dispute resolution, litigation, contracting and business organization. He also served as a State Senator in the Georgia General Assembly for four terms from 2003-2011, where he was appointed as the Governor’s Floor Leader, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee and served as a member of Appropriations, Health and Human Services and other influential committees.
Preston’s contributions to healthcare, patient-experience improvement and medical reforms are numerous. In 2005, he was the chief sponsor and principal author of the statewide reforms to Georgia’s medical liability laws. Georgia Trend magazine recognized Preston as one of the 40 most prominent leaders in Georgia under the age of 40 and subsequently named him to its list of the ‘100 Most Influential Georgians.’ The Daily Report named Preston among Georgia’s 21 ‘rising star’ lawyers and The Atlanta Business Chronicle recognized him on its “Who’s Who” list of Georgia leaders in the fields of law and business. As a result of his patient-centered advocacy and healthcare reforms, Preston was named Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians, Georgia Alliance of Community Hospitals, Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, Georgia Gastroenterology Society and the Society for Ambulatory Surgery Centers. In 2010, the American Justice Partnership named him to the top spot in its nation-wide rankings as its ‘National Hero’ in the legal reform movement.
Preston has been active in his community with service on several non-profit boards including the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest GA and DisABILITY Link. He previously hosted "Preston Smith Live," a daily radio talk show and has been a conference and retreat speaker, an adjunct professor of college level courses and a published author of magazine humor columns.
