The Opportunity

The vice president marketing and communication (VP) is responsible to provide strategic direction and leadership to the marketing and communications function for Sparrow Health System. The VP will develop and drive marketing and communication strategies and programs that elevate the system brand, improve visibility and foster relationships with key stakeholders that include patients, community leaders, caregivers, physicians, and partners. He/she will ensure the monitoring of strategic marketing and communications efforts in support of the system’s long-term strategic plan and provide guidance and counsel to senior leadership on brand and reputational topics that impact the mission, vision, values and strategic direction. 

The Candidate

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with a major in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, business administration or a related field from an accredited institution. A master’s degree and professional certification in marketing or public relations are preferred. 

Experience required:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible marketing management experience, preferably in health care. 
  • Minimum of five years in people/marketing leadership positions. 
  • Building, mentoring and coaching a team.

The Community

Lansing, the capital city of Michigan, is in the south-central part of the Lower Peninsula where the Grand River meets the Red Cedar River. The Lansing Metropolitan area (Mid-Michigan), population 464,036, is an important center for educational, cultural, governmental, commercial and industrial functions. The economy is anchored by auto manufacturing, health care, insurance and education. The downtown, dominated by state government buildings, including the State Capitol, has experienced recent growth in new restaurants, retail stores and residential development. Upriver and north of downtown is historic Old Town, with architecturally significant buildings dating to the mid-19th century.
