Alpharetta, GA – Tyler & Company is pleased to announce that Cory Edmondson will be the new President and CEO of Peterson Health, in Kerrville, TX.
Edmondson will report to the Peterson Health Board of Directors and work closely with the Board of Directors, hospital management and leadership of the organized medical staff in developing strategic direction and significant policies for the institution. He will also be responsible for ensuring the optimal fulfillment of the institution’s charter, mission, and philosophy in response to the identified needs of the community.
For the last six months, Tyler & Company partnered with Peterson’s search committee to find a candidate that would best fit the Peterson Health’s culture. Our vice president, Marion Spears Karr led the search alongside Charlotte Tinsley, assistant vice president, and the Tyler team. We started with over 250 candidates and narrowed it down to seven candidates for interviews with the search committee last month. Our team was thrilled with the placement of Edmondson.
“The Peterson Health Search Committee team showed an exceptional level of engagement, commitment, and resilience throughout the process of the CEO search for Peterson Health. When we have that level of interaction and collaboration, it makes the work we do not only easier but far more satisfying and meaningful. I truly appreciated getting to know the board and value our friendship and collegial connection,” said Karr.
Peterson Health has an incredible reputation. Their employees are actively involved in their neighborhoods by leading boards, serving as ambassadors, mentoring at local schools or coaching sports teams. Overall, the culture at Peterson reflects their core values: caring, accountability, leadership, learning, integrity, nurturing and going the extra mile
“The Peterson health team demonstrated the four hallmarks of productive love from the German social psychologist, Erich Fromm. They showed how they deeply cared for Peterson Health and the people they serve. They took responsibility as stewards of the organization and its future seriously and with a mission-centric mindset. The Peterson team respected everyone involved from the variety of stakeholders to all of the external candidates and those from the inside. And finally, they delivered their counsel and insight from the various backgrounds, points of view and experience they possessed with a significant level of knowledge and wisdom,” said Karr.
Edmondson will start in his new role on May 6, 2019, after J. Patrick Murray retires this month. Murray led Peterson Health as their president and CEO for 24 years.
Before accepting the president and chief executive officer position, Edmondson served as the senior vice president of Midland Health, and integrated nonprofit health system which includes a 474-bed acute care hospital, multi-specialty physician groups, post-acute care services and a variety of joint ventures. Midland Health also functions as a teaching medical center for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Before that, he served in leadership roles at Midland Memorial Hospital since 2001.
“Cory is a great fit for the Peterson family, our organizational culture, and the communities we serve. He’s had an incredible amount of parallel experience in his career that will continue to advance our mission of exceptional, compassionate, patient-centered care. He has extensive experience with capital building projects and expanding physician practices and specialty group,” said Mark Armstrong, Peterson’s Health Board Chair.
Edmondson received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Management in 1991 from Texas Tech University, and he completed his Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration in 2001 at William Howard Taft University, in Santa Ana California. Edmondson is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
“We are so pleased and proud of the search process we utilized to fill this important position and find the right candidate to step into the leadership role for Peterson Health. It’s been six months and a lot of work, and we are very happy with the outcome.
